Crash involving semi-trucks backs up traffic on I-10 in Tonopah

DPS says two semi-trucks and an SUV collided for reasons that are still being investigated.

MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. — A major crash involving semi-trucks on eastbound I-10 in Maricopa County caused a large backup of traffic Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened on the eastbound lanes of the highway in Tonopah near Wintersburg Road around 6 p.m.

DPS says two semi-trucks and an SUV collided for reasons that are still being investigated.

The crash caused one semi-truck to roll over and split in half. Part of the trailer went into westbound traffic and blocked one lane.

Traffic was briefly shut down while a medical helicopter transported the driver of the rolled-over semi to the hospital, according to ADOT.

Troopers haven’t shared the identity of that driver or his condition.

Eastbound traffic was temporarily closed, according to troopers.
