TONOPAH, Ariz. — Both drivers of a tractor-trailer that crashed on Interstate 10 near Tonopah Tonopah are dead, DPS officials said.
An Amazon tractor-trailer is now stopped in the median eastbound near 339th Avenue after what authorities suspect was a blowout caused the driver to lose control and strike the overpass.
A driver and co-driver were on board the truck at the time of the crash, AZDPS said. The driver, 40-year-old Colorado resident Abdullahi Abdi, died at the scene. The co-driver, 35-year-old Minnesota resident Fadhi Ali, died at the hospital. No one else was on board.
AZDPS said there is "virtually nothing left" of the truck cab following the crash and the trailers opened up. Cargo is all across the median and eastbound lanes.
“We’re incredibly saddened to learn of this tragic accident, and our thoughts are with the victims’ families and loved ones during this difficult time. We’re working to learn more information and will continue to support local law enforcement as they investigate," Montana MacLachlan, an Amazon spokesperson said.
ADOT told 12News that the truck hit the center column of the bridge.
"An initial check by ADOT staff at the site, in consultation with our bridge engineers, has determined that the damage is minor and that the bridge is safe for traffic," ADOT said in a statement to 12News.
