PHOENIX — Five vehicles were involved in a major crash on Loop 101 Agua Fria just south of Camelback Road that has blocked the highway. All northbound lanes are closed at Indian School Road.
Officials confirmed that one of the vehicles involved was a tanker truck loaded with propane. HAZMAT crews helped with the cleanup and the propane was "successfully offloaded".
"There are zero readings of any propane in the immediate and surrounding areas," according to the Phoenix Fire Department.
One person has been taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, fire officials said.
Southbound lanes were temporarily closed at Camelback Road but have since reopened.
The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to expect delays and take an alternate route. There is no estimated reopening time.
