MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. β The southbound lanes of State Route 87, which is also known as the Beeline Highway, have reopened after both sides of the highway were shut down at Gilbert Road north of Mesa due to a garbage truck fire, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The closure went into effect at about 5 p.m. on Saturday. The southbound lanes reopened at about 9:45 p.m.
ADOT said they currently do not know when the road will fully reopen and that drivers in the area should expect delays.
ADOT says drivers can check real-time traffic conditions online at AZ511.gov, in the AZ511 app or by calling 511.
The department did not specify exactly what vehicle caught fire, but video from a 12News crew at the scene appears to show a garbage truck that caught fire.
The Salt River Landfill is located at the intersection.
This is a developing story and more details will be added as they are made available.
