PHOENIX — The driver of a vehicle who hit a fire truck early Sunday morning in west Phoenix has been identified. Alexis Mendoza, 30, also showed signs of impairment when he hit the fire truck, police said. Five firefighters and another individual were transported to the hospital following the crash.
The Phoenix Fire Department said just before 1 a.m. near 75th Avenue and Thomas Road, a fire truck was involved in a crash with another vehicle. All five firefighters from the fire truck and one additional person from the other involved vehicle were able to self extricate, authorities said.
All six people were transported to local hospitals in "serious but stable condition," authorities said.
Police said the driver of the car ran a red light and collided with the fire truck.
The Phoenix Police Department will be handling the investigation. The identities of those who were injured in the crash have not yet been released.
