PHOENIX — We're inching closer to summer. But before the extreme heat begins, we've got a beautiful weekend ahead of us. It's a great time to get out and enjoy the weather.
But before you hit the road, there are a few closures and detours on Valley roadways you need to be aware of. Parts of Interstate 10 and State Route 87 will be closed.
The Arizona Department of Transportation recently shared some news on closures on their X (formerly Twitter) feed. Here are a few notable reminders.
Interstate 10
Westbound I-10 will close between the Santan 202 and the US 60 from 10:00 p.m. Friday to 4:00 a.m. Monday. The Westbound I-10 on-ramps at Wildhorse Pass Boulevard and Chandler Boulevard will close.
All Loop 202 ramps to Westbound I-10 will close. Westbound I-10 will narrow to three lanes between Broadway Road and 48th Street.
The Westbound I-10 on-ramp at Broadway Road will close.
To get around this, drivers on I-10 westbound can detour on the Eastbound Loop 202 in the Chandler area and use the Northbound Loop 101 to either the Westbound US 60 or Westbound Loop 202 to rejoin I-10 beyond the closure.
Drivers traveling to the west valley can use the Westbound/Northbound Loop 202.
Please note that the Eastbound US 60 will be narrowed to two lanes near Priest Drive from 10:00 p.m. Friday to 10:00 p.m. Saturday.
Loop 101
The Southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) will close between Guadalupe and Ray roads from 9:00 p.m. Friday to 5:00 a.m. Monday (May 6) for pavement improvement work.
Both US 60 ramps to southbound Loop 101 will close. The Southbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Broadway and Baseline roads will also close. Drivers can exit ahead of the closure and use the southbound Price frontage road before connecting with southbound Loop 101 beyond the closure. Drivers can also consider southbound Dobson Road or McClintock Drive.
US 60 (Grand Avenue)
US 60 (Grand Avenue) will narrow to one lane in both directions between 163rd Avenue (west of Loop 303) and Center Street (Wittmann area) from 11:00 p.m. Friday to 3:00 p.m. Saturday (May 4) and from 11:00 p.m. Saturday to 3:00 p.m. Sunday (May 5) for pavement sealing work.
The Deer Valley Road connection to US 60 will close. Temporary closures of other cross streets will be needed for work at intersections. Westbound US 60 drivers can use the northbound Loop 303 to northbound Lake Pleasant Parkway and westbound State Route 74.
Eastbound US 60 drivers (from Wickenburg) can consider using eastbound SR 74 to southbound Lake Pleasant Parkway and southbound Loop 303 to reach Grand Avenue (US 60). Local drivers near 163rd Avenue can consider alternate routes including eastbound Happy Valley Road to access Loop 303/Happy Valley Parkway.
State Route 87
State Route 87 will briefly close at times between Lindsay and Stapley drives (east of Scottsdale) from 9:00 p.m. Friday to 5:00 a.m. Saturday (May 4), from noon Saturday to noon Sunday (May 5) and from 8:00 p.m. Sunday to 5:00 a.m. Monday (May 6) for a Western Area Power Administration project.
Law enforcement officers will be on-site for intermittent closures of up to 15 minutes each time. Please allow extra travel time.
As always, please stay alert and be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching and traveling through work zones.
