Police identify teenager killed in south Phoenix crash

The accident happened near the intersection of 40th Street and Baseline Road in south Phoenix and involved multiple vehicles. Here are the latest details.

PHOENIX — The driver of a car involved in a fiery crash in south Phoenix on Saturday was a teen, police said.

Phoenix police responded to the area of 40th Street and Baseline Road around 2:50 p.m. Feb. 24. When officers got to the scene, one car was on fire.

Police identified the driver and only occupant of the car that caught on fire as 16-year-old Talha Abdel-Rahman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman driving the second car involved and her infant child were taken to the hospital out of precaution, police said. They were not hurt in the crash.

Police said Abdel-Rahman was driving west on Baseline Road and did not stop at a red light, crashing into the other car in the intersection. Abdel-Rahman's car then hit a light pole and caught fire.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. Police did not release any further information.
