Pedestrian dead after being struck by car in west Phoenix

Phoenix police officers identified the man as Jesus Saenz. He was struck around 7 p.m. Monday night and later died at the hospital.

PHOENIX — An older man has died after he was struck by a car in west Phoenix, according to police.

Phoenix police officers were called out near 43rd and Vista avenues around 7 p.m. Monday night after getting 911 calls of a pedestrian who was hurt.

When police arrived they found the man, later identified as Jesus Saenz in the roadway with serious injuries.

Saenz was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

Officials with the police department say that the driver stopped their vehicle after hitting Saenz, and has been cooperating with the investigation.

According to police, there were no signs that pointed to the driver being impaired.

The investigation is still ongoing, police say, and no arrests have been made at this time.

Driving Safety Tips:

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) offers driving tips to help keep people safe on the road.

"There’s always room for improvement when it comes to road safety," the department said on its website.

ADOT's suggestions include:

  • Don’t speed or drive aggressively
  • Never drive while under the influence of substances
  • Avoid distractions while driving
  • Wear your seatbelt and make sure all passengers are doing the same
  • When an emergency vehicle is on the side of the road, move over
  • Stay extra aware in work zones
  • Be prepared for weather conditions that make driving dangerous
