PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation will not schedule any state highway closures for full construction or maintenance from Wednesday, Nov. 22 to Monday, Nov. 27 to try and ease holiday travel stress.
Drivers are still encouraged to "expect the unexpected" when it comes to holiday travel and focus on safe driving, being patient and staying alert.
"Due to anticipated heavier traffic conditions during peak travel times including Wednesday and Sunday afternoons, motorists should try to get an early start, allow extra time if possible and be prepared for unscheduled closures or lane restrictions due to crashes, disabled vehicles, inclement weather or other incidents," a statement from ADOT said.
In 2022, there were 16 deadly crashes on Arizona roads during the Thanksgiving weekend, ADOT said. Four of those crashes involved alcohol.
