Multi-vehicle accident, including ambulance, injures 5 in central Phoenix

The ambulance was carrying a 17-year-old with a gunshot wound at the time of the crash, authorities say.

PHOENIX — A crash early on Monday morning involved multiple vehicles and an ambulance carrying a 17-year-old boy with a gunshot wound, authorities said.

Phoenix firefighters were called to the area of 7th Street and Northern Avenue around 2:15 a.m. on Monday for reports of a multi-vehicle accident. When crews arrived on the scene, they found two vehicles and a total of five patients, authorities said.

A Maricopa ambulance was also involved in the accident. Authorities said they found the ambulance on its side at the scene.

One man was extricated from his vehicle and all patients were treated and transported to the hospital, authorities said.

The identities of the five patients were not released, but authorities did report the ages: one 17-year-old man, one man in his 20s, one man in his 70s, one woman in her 40s and one man in his 30s. All of the patients, except for the man in his 30s, were transported in critical condition.

Northern Avenue at 7th Street will be closed, according to authorities.
