BUCKEYE, Ariz. — A motorcyclist, later identified as 28-year-old Alexander Panerio, is dead after a crash with a semi-truck in the West Valley early Friday morning, officials with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said.
The crash happened just after 4:30 a.m. near Baseline Road and Maricopa County Road 85 in Buckeye.
The driver of the motorcycle died on the scene and no other injuries were reported.
Although the crash caused the semi-truck to start leaking diesel onto the roadway, HAZMAT crews quickly contained the spill.
The motorcycle, going the same direction as the semi-truck, attempted to pass the semi-truck on the left in a no-passing zone, authorities said, crashing into the semi-truck. Authorities said the semi-truck driver was not impaired.
