MARICOPA, Ariz. — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash near Maricopa on Thursday morning. According to early reports, they crashed while fleeing from city police.
Around 3 a.m., officers attempted to pull the motorcyclist over while on John Wayne Parkway. Although the driver initially stopped, they allegedly drove off "at a high rate of speed" before the traffic stop was finished, police said.
The motorcyclist drove down John Wayne Parkway before crashing near Alterra Parkway. First responders pronounced them dead at the scene of the crash.
The Pinal County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the investigation and parts of the roadway were closed off.
The motorcyclist's identity hasn't been released at this time.
