Motorcycle rider killed in Mesa crash

Police said the driver of the motorcycle was thrown off the bike, sustained a significant head injury, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

MESA, Ariz. — A motorcyclist is dead after getting hit by a truck in Mesa Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Mesa police said preliminary information indicates the truck was turning left from Ray Road onto southbound Sossaman when it turned in front of the motorcycle traveling eastbound, and they collided.

Police said the driver of the motorcycle was thrown off the bike, sustained a significant head injury, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities said the truck driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with police. 

The intersection of Sossaman and Ray roads is closed while police work to clear the scene.

Calls to Silent Witness are answered 24/7 by a live person and submitted tips are accepted at all times. Submitted tips are then sent to the detective(s) in charge of the specific case.

Individuals who submit tips that lead to an arrest or indictment in the case can get a reward of up to $1,000.
