Mesa officer involved in crash pulled from wreckage through windshield

The officer was responding to a call with lights and sirens when he was involved in a crash at an intersection.

MESA, Ariz. — A Mesa police officer had to be pulled through the windshield of his patrol unit after being involved in a crash at East Baseline Road and North McQueen Road on Monday afternoon.

Mesa police officials said the officer was trapped in his unit after the force of the crash rolled the vehicle onto its side. Other officers on scene broke the windshield and pulled him through, officials said. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The officer was responding to a call for service by the Gilbert Police Department and had his lights and sirens going when he collided with another car at the intersection, according to Mesa police. The driver of the other car also suffered minor injuries but it is unknown if they were taken to the hospital.
