MESA, Ariz. — A construction worker in Mesa was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday morning, city police said. Authorities don't believe the driver was impaired.
The crash happened near Main Street and Greenfield Road when the driver switched lanes due to a construction barricade before abruptly swerving back to avoid a vehicle turning onto a private drive, police said.
When the driver swerved, they reportedly went into a coned construction area in the middle lane, and struck the worker who was deploying equipment in the area.
The worker was wearing a high-visibility traffic vest at the time of the crash. The driver reportedly stayed on scene, and didn't show any signs of impairment.
The worker, who is currently unidentified, died from his injuries. Police may recommend charges depending on the results of the investigation.
