MESA, Ariz. — A portion of Loop 202 in Mesa was shut down in both directions Friday afternoon for emergency utility work.

ADOT said the closure is between Gilbert Road and Val Vista Drive. Roads were blocked off just before 5 p.m. Traffic is being redirected off the highway.

Salt River Project, one of the Valley's biggest utility providers, said the emergency is due to down power lines.

Repairs were completed ahead of schedule and the highway has reopened.
