MESA, Ariz. — Delays can be expected along the Loop 202 freeway at Val Vista Drive after lanes were closed Sunday morning for a police incident, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

As of 8 a.m., at least one eastbound lane of travel was still closed.

There is no estimated time for reopening the entire freeway and motorists are instructed to exit off the Val Vista Drive ramps. Drivers are advised to consider using alternate routes or delaying travel.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said officers are responding to calls of a suicidal subject who reportedly jumped off the Loop 202 overpass. Paramedics are on scene attempting to assist the individual.
