A woman was killed after running a red light and colliding with another car. She has now been identified by police.

The collision happened at the intersection of East J Robson Boulevard and Riggs Road in Sun Lakes on Friday. Here are the latest details.

SUN LAKES, Ariz. — The woman who died after running a red light and colliding with another car has been identified by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.  

MCSO told 12News the crash happened at the intersection of East J Robson Boulevard and Riggs Road just before 2:45 p.m. on Friday. 

The driver of a small SUV headed west on Riggs Road, identified as 67-year-old Rita Halverson, ran a red light at the intersection and collided with another small SUV that was being driven by a 58-year-old woman and making a left turn from Robson Boulevard onto Riggs Road, according to MCSO.    

After the collision, Halverson was taken to Chandler Regional Medical Center, where she died. 

The driver of the other SUV was also taken to Chandler Regional to be treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, MCSO said. 

Speed and distraction are not considered to be factors in the crash, according to MCSO.
