PHOENIX — Authorities closed the southbound lanes of Interstate 17 at the Camelback Road exit early Saturday morning while they investigated the cause of a multi-vehicle collision on the roadway, Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers said.
The roadway has since been reopened, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.
The crash has caused the death of one person who has not yet been identified by the department, troopers said. The incident happened around 1:20 a.m. Saturday morning near the 203 exit on I-17.
Three vehicles were involved in the crash, DPS said. Troopers are searching for one of the drivers who fled the scene after the crash.
Arizona Department of Transportation cameras showed a significant traffic back-up at the area of the road closure.
