CAMP VERDE, Ariz. — Both directions of I-17 in Yavapai County were shut down Friday afternoon as fire crews try to contain a brush fire.
The fire is burning about seven miles north of Camp Verde. It started around 2:30 p.m., and ADOT says the highway was shut down between State Route 179 and milepost 294.
The southbound lanes were reopened just before 5 p.m. and one lane of the north side was reopened shortly after.
Authorities say the fire has burned about 50 acres, but crews are making progress in containing it.
Residents in Rimrock have been evacuated.
Traffic is being redirected away from the area.
It's unclear how long the highway will be shut down or what sparked the fire.
