GUADALUPE, Arizona — A man accused of shooting two people in Phoenix is now in custody after a standoff with SWAT teams on Interstate 10 near Tucson, footage provided by KVOA showed.

Police began to search the area when the suspect, who has been identified as 28-year-old Luis Lopez Gutierrez, was seen fleeing south on I-10. Phoenix police backed off and the Department of Public Safety stepped in to help with the investigation.

The suspect fled from an attempted traffic stop south of Guadalupe and continued down the highway until DPS stopped him at milepost 246 between Tucson and Marana.

Footage of the scene showed multiple Pima County SWAT vehicles surrounding the suspect, who had barricaded himself inside a black jeep. The man was seen with what appeared to be a firearm in hand.

After a prolonged standoff, a K9 officer helped take the subject into custody, scene video showed. Gutierrez was taken to a hospital for treatment for injuries, released and has been transported back to Phoenix, officials say.

He was booked on multiple felony charges including aggravated assault, disorderly conduct with a firearm, trespassing, discharging a firearm at a non-residential structure, discharging a firearm at a residential structure, unlawful discharge of a firearm within and into the limits of a municipality, and misconduct involving weapons.

The highway was temporarily closed but has since reopened. Drivers in the area can expect delays as traffic clears.
