CHANDLER, Ariz. — Interstate 10 is closed in both directions after a deadly crash near Riggs Road south of Chandler, according to authorities.

Two people are dead after the multi-vehicle crash, Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said.
DPS said the crash happened around 12:10 p.m. when traffic slowed in the westbound lane. A box truck wasn't able to slow down in time and hit a pickup and three other vehicles.
"The force of the impact pushed both the box truck and the pickup into the median where both vehicles caught fire," DPS said.
The drivers of both the box truck and the pickup truck were killed in the crash, DPS said. The drivers of two other vehicles were hospitalized.
DPS said the box truck was rear-ended but that driver was not injured in the crash.
The roadway will remain closed for an unknown amount of time, ADOT said.
Drivers should seek an alternative route.
An ADOT camera showed a plume of smoke billowing into the sky near the crash site.
