87-year-old dead after crash in north Phoenix

Speed was a factor in the Feb. 17 crash near 32nd Street and Beardsley Road, police say.

PHOENIX — A man is dead following a crash in north Phoenix on Saturday, police said.

Phoenix police officers responded to a crash near 32nd Street and Beardsley Road at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 17. When officers arrived at the scene, they found two vehicles with "extensive damage." There were two people inside a black four-door vehicle and one person inside a teal four-door vehicle.

The man inside the teal vehicle was identified as 87-year-old Ivan Teklic. Teklic was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries, police said. The driver and passenger in the black vehicle did not have any serious injuries. 

Detectives said the black vehicle was heading north on 32nd Street at high speeds and crashed into Teklic's vehicle. The driver of the black vehicle showed no signs of impairment, police said.

The identities of the driver and passenger of the black vehicle were not released. Police released no other information.
