MESA, Ariz. — A person has died after being hit by a car that left the scene of the crash, according to the Mesa Police Department. The department recently released more details about the suspected driver.
MPD told 12News that the crash happened just after 6 p.m. near the intersection of University and Stapley drives.

Investigators learned that the victim, 54-year-old Jose Luis Garcia was leaving a private drive when something fell out of his truck. Garcia stopped and got out to retrieve it when he was struck by another vehicle.
Police said that Garcia was struck by an "older model silver passenger truck" that continued driving north on Stapley Drive. They expect the truck to have damage to the center of its front end.

Witnesses were unable to provide further information and there was no physical evidence left on the scene, police said.
