According to the Peoria Police Department, the crash happened before 3 p.m. near 99th and Peoria avenues.
An adult male was struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross the westbound lanes of Peoria Avenue, police said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He's been identified as 80-year-old Colin Thorpe of Peoria.
The individual was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision, police said.
The collision was a single-vehicle collision and the driver remained on the scene.
Police said no individuals have been arrested since the collision appears to have been a "tragic accident."
Investigators are still investigating whether speed affected the crash but have ruled out impairment.
Police also urge anyone who needs to cross a roadway to do so at a crosswalk.

What is the Valley?:
“The Valley” is what locals call the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. It is considered the largest metropolitan area in the Southwest.
The Valley is made up of various major cities other than Phoenix, including:
- Mesa
- Chandler
- Scottsdale
- Tempe
- Glendale
- Surprise
- Peoria
- Gilbert
- El Mirage
- Avondale
- Litchfield Park
- Goodyear
- Buckeye
Whether a city is in the “East Valley” or “West Valley” depends on where it is in relation to Phoenix.
The cities of the Valley have a combined population of 4,845,832 people, according to the 2020 United States Census. This makes it the 11th largest metropolitan area in the country right behind the Boston and Atlanta areas.
