Driver dies after crash on I-17 in north Phoenix

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says the lone driver of the vehicle recently died at the hospital.

PHOENIX — The driver involved in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 17 south of State Route 303 in north Phoenix has died.

Shortly before 2 p.m., a vehicle rolled over on southbound I-17 Thursday afternoon, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said. The lone driver of the car lost control of the vehicle and struck the median wall.

DPS identified the driver as Miraslav Jovanovic, 60, of Anthem. Jovanovic was taken to the hospital with serious injuries where they later died.

As of now, it is unknown why Jovanovic lost control of the car. DPS initially said that two people in the car were injured, but later withdrew that assessment as they learned that Jovanovic was alone.

I-17 has since reopened, DPS said. Traffic was backed up in the area because all southbound lanes of I-17 were closed.
