2 dead following crash near Glendale

The two-car crash was reported Wednesday at about 2:30 p.m. near 43rd and Dunlap avenues.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Two people are dead following a car crash near Glendale on Wednesday, authorities said.

Firefighters from Phoenix and Glendale were dispatched to the intersection of 43rd and Dunlap avenues for reports of a multi-vehicle crash. When crews arrived at the scene, they found a two-vehicle accident. 

One person needed to be extricated from their vehicle, authorities said. A woman in was treated by fire, but pronounced dead at the scene. A man was transported to the hospital and later died. A man in his 30s was transported to the hospital in stable condition. 

The deceased have been identified as 79-year-old Janette Oviatt and 80-year-old Thomas Oviatt.

Impairment does not appear to be involved in causing the crash, police said.

Preliminary information suggests a Ford driving at a high rate of speed on 43rd Avenue and struck a Toyota that was making a left-hand turn onto Ruth Avenue, police said. The deceased individuals were in the Toyota.
