PHOENIX — A man with multiple prior felony convictions was in a car chase and crash on Thursday morning, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

A DPS trooper attempted a traffic stop on Interstate 17, south of Northern Avenue. The suspect vehicle, a Dodge pickup, refused to stop, authorities said. The vehicle then got off the freeway and the trooper backed off the pursuit.

The truck was found by another trooper in a nearby Costco parking lot at 33rd and Grand avenues with the suspect still inside, authorities said.

He then sped out of the parking lot and hit another vehicle on 33rd Avenue, according to the report. The suspect, his passenger and the driver of the vehicle who was hit all suffered minor injuries.

DPS said the suspect has multiple felony convictions and is facing charges related to the incident. Once he is discharged from the hospital, he will be booked into the Maricopa County jail.
