PHOENIX — A Phoenix city bus was involved in a crash Monday morning that left a woman dead, fire and medical officials confirmed.
The crash happened around 9 a.m. near 19th Avenue and Cactus Road in north Phoenix.
Phoenix police said the initial investigation revealed that 31-year-old Melody Stewart was driving northbound on 19th Avenue from Cactus Road when she veered into the southbound lanes, hitting the bus head-on, which was heading southbound on 19th Avenue.
Officials said Stewart was treated but died from her injuries on the scene. Medics evaluated three of the bus passengers at the scene. One man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Officials said the investigation is ongoing and more evidence is being processed.
