GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Police have identified two people who were inside a car that drove into a lake in Goodyear.
Police said a car left the road and entered a lake within a gated community in south Goodyear, just south of the intersection of Estrella Parkway and Willis Road.
The car was submerged, but the driver, 35-year-old Anthony Maiorana, was able to get out. He was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Police said officers were unsure if there were any other people in the car initially and a dive team was able to confirm there was another person in the car who died: The passenger in the vehicle, later identified as 35-year-old Megan Maiorana, Anthony's wife.
Anthony Maiorana was taken into custody at the hospital when the investigating officers suspected alcohol was a contributing factor. He was booked on the following charges: Extreme DUI, manslaughter, DUI, DUI with BAC of .08 or more, Extreme DUI-BAC .15-.20 and reckless driving.
