TEMPE, Ariz. — A motorcyclist is dead and a passenger was injured in a crash on Loop 202 near McClintock Drive in Tempe, police said.
A car had tire failure while traveling in the westbound lane of Loop 202. The car swerved, attempting to avoid the motorcyclist, but ended up hitting the motorcycle and sending the rider and passenger into the eastbound lanes of Loop 202, police said.
The driver of the motorcycle was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died shortly after. The passenger was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the car did stay on scene, police said.
