NAVAJO COUNTY, Ariz. — A bridge that connects Arizona and New Mexico in the Navajo Nation has been severely damaged due to the weather, according to a post from the Navajo Police Department.
The bridge is on U.S. Highway 64 and all lanes of the highway are closed in both directions from mile marker 0 in Arizona to mile marker 12 in New Mexico.
Navajo police officials said the highway shouldn't be used between Teec Nos Pos, Arizona, and Beclabito, New Mexico, and travelers will have to go through Colorado instead.
"If you’re traveling from Teec Nos Pos, from U.S. Highway 160, head towards Cortez, New Mexico, and back on U.S. Highway 491, towards Shiprock," officials said.
The Arizona and New Mexico departments of transportation are working together on the roadway.
Navajo EMS assured residents in a post that their services have not been affected.
