AVONDALE, Ariz. — Two people are dead and two more are injured following a fatal crash in Avondale, the city's police department said.
Avondale police said two vehicles crashed into one another at the intersection of Dysart and Thomas roads around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. One of the vehicles was traveling north and ran a red light, hitting the second vehicle making a left turn, police said.
One passenger in the first car was pronounced dead at the scene and a second passenger was taken to the hospital, but later died. The driver and another passenger from the first vehicle and the driver and a passenger from the second vehicle were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.
Police said impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash and those who died have not yet been identified. No other details were given.
The northbound driver, Kamryn Slivers, who police say ran the red light has been arrested for DUI, manslaughter, and aggravated assault.
"During the investigation, it was learned that the driver of the other vehicle (who turned eastbound on W. Thomas Rd.) was also impaired. Charges of Driving Under the Influence will be forwarded to the appropriate court for this driver," police said.
Police are not releasing names of parties involved at this time due to pending identification.
