PHOENIX — Arizona state Sen. Anthony Kern (R - Dist. 27) has been injured in a crash, according to Kim Quintero, the director of communications for the Arizona State Senate Republican Caucus.
Quintero told 12News that Sen. Kern was in a crash in South Dakota and has been stabilized at a hospital. She did not have any other details on the crash.
12News is working to get more information.
The first word about the crash came in at about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday in a post on X from Tyler Bowyer, the chief operating officer of Turning Point USA.
"Patriot (Sen. Anthony Kern) was in a bad car accident please keep him and those involved in your prayers," Bowyer's post read.
Arizona Senate President Sen. Warren Petersen (R - Dist. 12) also posted about the crash on X, saying, "Senator Kern was in a serious car accident. Has some injuries but he is in stable condition. Prayers that he will heal quickly."
The account for the Arizona State Senate Democratic Caucus on X posted, "Sending our well wishes to Senator (Anthony Kern) and praying for a complete and speedy recovery."
Kern has represented District 27 in the Arizona State Senate since January 2023 and his term will come to an end in January and he will leave office as he did not run for re-election. Kern ran to represent Arizona's 8th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, but was defeated in the Republican primary in July.
Kern was also charged with nine felonies in April in connection with the so-called "fake electors" scheme that worked to overturn Donald Trump's election loss in Arizona in 2020. Former President Trump was re-elected in November and will return to the Oval Office on Jan. 20, 2025.
