Arizona woman arrested following fatal hit-and-run in north Phoenix

PHOENIX — A man is dead and a woman is in custody following a hit-and-run crash in north Phoenix, the city's police department said. 

Phoenix police officers were called to a hit-and-run crash near 30th Avenue and Thunderbird Road around 11 p.m. on Thursday. Officers and fire personnel found a man, later identified as 43-year-old William Sears, suffering from "critical injuries." Sears died at the scene.

Police said Sears was riding a motorized scooter west along Thunderbird Road when he was hit by a car. The driver of the car reportedly left the scene before 911 was called, police said.

Detectives identified 28-year-old Ilisia Lujan as the driver and she was booked into Maricopa County Sheriff's Office jail, police said.

Police did not release any information regarding what led up to the crash or the charges Lujan is facing.
