Man jumps from highway after 3 car crash involving a wrong way driver in central Phoenix, DPS says

The crash took place near 19th Avenue and Interstate 10 late Saturday evening, authorities say.

PHOENIX — A man was apprehended after jumping from Interstate 10 on Saturday evening, authorities said. He allegedly fled the scene of a three-car crash involving a wrong way driver. 

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating a three-vehicle crash, which stemmed from a driver allegedly driving the wrong way on Interstate 10 near 19th Avenue in central Phoenix on Saturday night. 

DPS said the vehicle was reported to be traveling west in the east lanes before the crash. One person left the scene before police got there, but was later detained under I-10 after jumping from the highway, DPS said.

One person was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, DPS said. Impairment is being investigated at this time.
