PHOENIX — Two people are dead following a crash in Phoenix involving a vehicle driving the wrong way, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

A car was headed south in the northbound lanes of State Route 202 at about 2 a.m. on Sunday, according to officials. The car entered the freeway at Baseline Road.

Seconds later, the vehicle driving the wrong way hit another vehicle, and a third vehicle also crashed into the first two vehicles.

The drivers of the first and second vehicles were the only people in the vehicles and both died, authorities said. The people in the third vehicle were unharmed.

The alleged wrong-way driver has been identified as Uriel Sanchez, 22, of Chandler. The other deceased driver has been identified as Jordon Lewis, 19, of Laveen.

DPS said impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
