CHANDLER, Ariz. — The Arizona Department of Transportation is seeking public feedback on how it can improve safety on State Route 347 near Riggs Road.
This area of SR-347 has been the site of multiple deadly crashes over the years. A 7-year-old girl died in 2021 after being ejected from a car driving recklessly along SR-347.
A motorist died in December 2020 after crashing into the back of a box truck near Riggs Road.
A 2016 crash near Riggs Road involving up to 12 cars killed one person and injured several others, according to local media reports.
U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg even made a visit to this "dangerous" intersection a couple of years ago, the Maricopa Monitor reports.
To enhance traffic flow and safety, ADOT is considering several interchange designs to construct at this location. The study will continue into the summer of 2025 and construction may begin later that year.
Input can be submitted to ADOT by calling 480-589-4366 or emailing a message to KLarson@azdot.gov.
More information about the ADOT study can be found here.
