Phoenix to finish the year without major freeway closures as ADOT looks to keep holiday traffic moving

To limit impacts on traffic, shopping and delivery during the holidays, ADOT announced that they wouldn't close freeways for work projects for the rest of 2023.

PHOENIX — Happy holidays, drivers. ADOT is giving the Phoenix area a big gift: No more major freeway closures for the rest of the year!

"To limit impacts on traffic, shopping and the delivery of products during the holiday travel season, ADOT and its contractors schedule work to avoid full freeway closures through New Year’s weekend," the department announced.

While work is still planned near Phoenix-area freeways, there are no major closures schedules for the ongoing improvement projects. Be aware that there are still reduced speed limits on I-17 and some overnight ramp closures.

The westbound US 60 HOV lane ramp to westbound I-10 will be closed overnight from 9 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday.

You can track highway conditions at az511.gov.
