Police identify 2 victims of deadly crash in north Phoenix

The crash happened at the intersection of 15th Avenue and Bell Road on Saturday morning. Here's what we know.

PHOENIX — Two people have now died after a crash in north Phoenix, according to Phoenix police.

Police said officers were called to the intersection of 15th Avenue and Bell Road at about 9:25 a.m. on Saturday due to a crash that had resulted in injuries.

When officers got to the scene, they found that two cars had collided and three people had been hurt.

The driver of one of the cars, 85-year-old Fouad Shawo, and the passenger in that car, 85-year-old Virginia Nathan, were both taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Both of them later died.

The other driver, who is an adult, was also hospitalized, but has non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.

Phoenix police said their initial investigation shows that the car containing Shawo and Nathan was headed west on Bell Road and was turning left onto 15th Avenue when it was hit by the other car, which was headed east on Bell Road.

Police added that they are still reconstructing the crash and that no one will be charged until that process is complete.
