Man dies in fiery central Phoenix crash

PHOENIX — A man is dead following a crash involving a vehicle on fire in central Phoenix, the city's police department said.

Phoenix police and fire personnel were called to the area near Galvin Parkway and Van Buren Street around 1:30 a.m. on Friday morning for a vehicle on fire.

When fire extinguished the flames, personnel found a man who was dead inside.

Detectives found that the man who died was driving on Van Buren Street and hit a curb, colliding with a power pole.

After the car rolled into the desert area, it caught fire, police said. 

The identity of the driver or details of what led up to the incident have not been released.
