One person is dead and three people, including a pregnant woman and an infant, are in critical condition following a crash on State Route 51 on Friday night.
The Phoenix Fire Department responded to a three-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of SR 51 at Union Hills Drive.
When crews arrived, they identified one person in need of extrication. One person was pronounced dead on the scene and three others were transported to trauma centers, officials said.
Among the severely injured were a man in his 30s, a pregnant woman in her 20s and an infant, officials said.
The Department of Public Safety has taken over the scene and is investigating the cause of the accident.

Stay extra aware in work zones
Be prepared for weather conditions that make driving dangerous
