Vehicles involved in fatal Litchfield Park crash appeared to be 'racing' according to witnesses, police say

The crash involved two vehicles near Dysart and Camelback roads on Friday night, authorities say.

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. — One person is dead following a crash in Litchfield Park on Friday night, authorities said. Witnesses told police both vehicles involved in the crash appeared to be "racing." 

Maricopa County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a vehicle crash near Dysart and Camelback roads just before 10:30 p.m. on Friday. When deputies got to the scene, they found two vehicles each with one person inside that were involved in a crash. 

Witnesses told police that both vehicles appeared to be "racing" and then they crashed into one another, causing them to then hit the traffic signals at the intersection of Camelback Road and 127th Avenue. 

A man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries from one of the vehicles and the second person involved was pronounced dead at the scene, MCSO said. 

On Sunday morning, MCSO said the vehicle of the driver who died also caught fire. The other driver was seriously injured but is expected to survive.
