A suspect was arrested in a deadly hit-and-run in north Phoenix. Police say impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash.

When officers got to the scene, they found a man who was dead and showed obvious signs of trauma.

PHOENIX — A man is dead following an alleged hit-and-run in north Phoenix, the city's police department said.

Phoenix police officers were called to an injured person near Cave Creek and Bell roads just after 6 a.m. on Sunday. When officers arrived, they found a man who was dead and showed obvious signs of trauma, police said.

Police identified the victim as 81-year-old Eduardo Ramirez Jimenez.

Investigators later identified Alberto Chilel Santos, 27, as a suspect in Jimenez's death.

"During their initial investigation, officers discovered evidence on scene and located a vehicle nearby with damage consistent with a recent collision," police said.

Police said Santos "showed signs of impairment."

Santos was arrested and booked into the Maricopa County jail.

Police said he is facing charges of manslaughter and leaving the scene of a collision.

According to police, the investigation into the incident remains active.
