PHOENIX — A child was allegedly hit by a Phoenix police car responding to the scene of a crash in north Phoenix, authorities said.
The Phoenix Fire Department treated and took three people, including a child, to the hospital following the Saturday morning crash near 28th Drive and Peoria Avenue, officials said.
A Phoenix police officer patrolling the area saw a vehicle driving "recklessly" in the area. When the vehicle saw the patrol car, it fled away at high speed, losing control and crashing into multiple cars, police said.
The people in the vehicle ran away from the crash, police said. The responding patrol car attempted to avoid the crash and ended up hitting a child who had ran into the roadway. The child was coming from a vehicle that had been involved in the initial crash, police said.
The child is listed in stable condition and the two adults have non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Several people were detained and are believed to be the subjects who fled from the suspect vehicle, police said.
