Phoenix’s Greenwood Brewing teams up with Mercury to celebrate women

How beer and basketball are empowering women in the valley to dream big

PHOENIX — A 2021 survey done by the Brewers Association found that less than three percent of breweries in the United States are 100% owned by women.

That makes Phoenix's Greenwood Brewing a rare gem in the craft beer world. Megan Greenwood, founder and owner of Greenwood Brewing, is using her platform and teaming up with the Phoenix Mercury to empower other women by sharing “Her Story” one can at a time.

Greenwood's flagship pale ale, Herstory, is getting a Mercury makeover with limited edition cans celebrating our city and the three-time WNBA champions. The 24-ounce individual cans can be purchased at Greenwood Brewing on Roosevelt Row in Downtown Phoenix or at the Footprint Center during Mercury games.

Greenwood describes Herstory as a celebration of women, making it the perfect pairing for a partnership with the Mercury.

“If I knew that in the future, I'd be launching a collaboration beer with a women NBA team like the Phoenix Mercury, I would just think that was so cool. And I do,” Greenwood said. “Being a solely woman-owned company and self-funded, it's really rare. We're having a moment in the brewing industry where there are more and more women drinking beer and there are more and more women opening up breweries.

"Everyone watches women's sports, obviously," Greenwood continued. "So, this year was really a special year to launch a collaboration beer with Phoenix athletes, women athletes and women brewers and Phoenix breweries.”
