TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Arizona athletic department announced Wednesday that senior leadership and all of its head coaches will take salary reductions in accordance with the school's financial mitigation plan in wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
UArizona says men's basketball coach Sean Miller, football coach Kevin Sumlin, women's basketball coach Adia Barnes, baseball coach Jay Johnson and athletic director Dave Heeke have voluntarily taken 20% salary reductions.
"We are committed to continuing our work to address the economic hardships of this unprecedented crisis," Arizona Athletics' statement read in part.
On March 12, the NCAA canceled March Madness, the Frozen Four, the College World Series, as well as all other remaining winter and spring sports championships.
According to USA Today, Miller is the 22nd-highest paid men's college basketball head coach with a salary of $3.2 million and Sumlin makes $2 million per year.
In April UArizona announced it is planning to resume in-person classes for students during the fall semester.
