PHOENIX - The Phoenix Suns picked University of Arizona’s Deandre Ayton in the first overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft.
It was the franchise’s first ever No. 1 draft pick. The Suns also own four total selections in this year’s draft, including three of the top 31 picks.
The 7-foot-1 center averaged 20.1 points and 11.6 rebounds per game for the Wildcats last season.
Ayton had previously expressed supreme confidence at a pre-draft workout that the Suns would use the No. 1 overall pick to select him. He said it would be "a blessing" to stay in Phoenix for his NBA career.
