MINNEAPOLIS — Three years ago, the world was captivated by Jade Carey's gold medal-winning floor routine at the Tokyo Olympics.

Now, the Mountain Ridge High School alum will get a chance to win gold once again after being one of the five gymnasts selected to represent Team USA at the US Olympic Gymnastics Team Trials at the Target Center in Minneapolis on Sunday.

Carey was selected at the culmination of the two-day event that saw her finish in fourth place in the all-around after competing in every apparatus twice.

This time around, Carey will go to the Olympics to compete in the team competition. She was taken to Tokyo as an individual competitor in the vault and floor exercise.

Carey did not medal in the vault after tripping while running on her first attempt. She took home gold in the floor exercise.

Since then, Carey has been competing collegiately at Oregon State along with internationally.

Carey was a team and vault world champion in 2022 and has won silver medals at the NCAA national championships in uneven bars (2022), balance beam (2023), all-around (2024) and floor exercise (2024).

Carey was born in Phoenix and graduated from Mountain Ridge High School in 2018. She was named the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year in 2022 and 2023. Her dad, Brian, is her coach. She has been competing in gymnastics since 2001 and her parents are both former gymnasts.

The women's gymnastics competition will begin on July 28 at Bercy Arena in Paris. The women's team final will be held on July 30. The women's all-around final will be on Aug. 1. The women's vault final will be on Aug. 3. The women's uneven bars final will be on Aug. 4 and the women's balance beam and floor exercise finals will be on Aug. 5.
