PHOENIX — Arizonan Jade Carey smiles from ear to ear, a medal around her neck and two talented gymnasts posing with her for a selfie after the women's artistic gymnastics individual vault finals on Aug. 3 in Paris.
And Carey's got every reason to smile. The Phoenix-born gymnast just won bronze for her first Olympic vault medal.
The Mountain Ridge High School alumnus and current Oregon State gymnast finished third in the women's individual vault, bringing her medal count to two during this year's Olympic games in Paris.
Fellow American and Team USA teammate Simone Biles took home the gold medal and Rebeca Andrade from Brazil finished with a silver.
Carey's two vaults scored 14.733 on the first rotation and 14.200 on the second for a combined 14.466. Those cumulative scores were enough for her to place third grabbing her second Olympic medal this year and third all time.
In 2020, Carey won the gold medal for her floor exercise during the Tokyo Olympics after facing challenges during the vault.
She started in gymnastics in 2001, less than a year after she was born, and began competing at the elite level in 2017 at 17 years old, going from a relatively unknown gymnast to a household name.
Congrats, Carey!
